THE OPALESCENT SERIES

Translucency, form, and function all come together as one, in this newly released handmade collection of porcelain lighting. All porcelain components of this work are wheel thrown, which include the base, dimmer knob, dimmer housing, socket cups, finial, and shade. I formulate and mix my own porcelain in studio, which allows me to control the color and translucency of the fired material. The porcelain shade walls are finished down to about 1/8 inch thick , and are high-fried to 2350 degrees Fahrenheit, resulting in a beautiful and strong fired porcelain. The Opalescent Series is informed by everything I have made and learned within the field of ceramics over the last 32 years (since the age of 18). Technique is very important when making this type of work, but I am pleased to see these porcelain objects of light transcending me as the maker, living out in the real world, hopefully bringing value to the daily lives and environments of the people they exist within.
