MODERN ANTIQUITIES

My work has many influences. These include daily life experience, my attempt and failing to compete with the beauty of nature, and ceramic traditions from the present and past. Chinese ceramics [particularly from the Song Dynasty (960-1279)], are a foundational inspiration for all the work I make. The objects, forms, and traditional glazes shown here, are a homage to the great tradition of ceramics, one I feel honored to participate within.

Blossom (not for sale)

This wheel-thrown vessel is made from Japanese, Kyushu porcelain. The piece is fired with a copper-red reduction glaze. The neck of the work broke and was repaired using a traditional Japanese technique applying gold to fill the lines of the rejoined shards. In Japanese the technique is called kintsugi.
